Our founder, Jim McKelvey, says that people who solve problems are the happiest people. If that’s the case, we’re surely the happiest people around.
Every year, Mira gets to solve problems for hundreds of professional associations and societies. Our abstract management software is considered the industry gold standard thanks to our tireless approach to innovation.
In 1990, McKelvey launched Mira Conference in the living room of his South St. Louis apartment. That was back when desktop scanners were clunky and expensive. Associations needed a better way to manage their documents and McKelvey’s answer was the “LOOK” document management system. LOOK allowed small businesses to reduce their paper usage at a manageable cost. Leveraging expertise in content management, Mira soon began publishing directories on CD-ROM.
“People who solve problems are happier.”
– Jim McKelvey, Mira Founder
In 1996, Mira released paperCUTTER, the first commercially viable system for abstract collection and peer review. Today, paperCUTTER is the foundation of miraSMART suite of products.
In 2005, Mira solved the proceedings distribution problem (too expensive, too much paper) and launched its library services, allowing associations to host their proceedings on Mira’s cloud servers, on USB thumb drives and in traditional printed format. Most organizations use all three formats to archive and share the research presented at their conferences. Mira’s dedicated project managers are experts in understanding your workflow, audience and the best way to archive and distribute your conference data.
McKelvey always says that “people who solve problems are happier.” We agree. We’re proof. contact us and we’ll share the joy.
